cause that's worth fighting for.

As usual, I had a few topics in mind when I clicked on this blog's update page. For example, off the top of my head:
  • my bunny being cute as hale because of the way he always, always comes to greet me whenever I come home, just like a dog
  • mermaids and Atlantis - I swear I'm fixated on this
  • being unreasonably pissed off whenever I wake up late (or even worse - the last in the house) or coming home last, when there's nothing to greet me but silence~~
  • my childhood because it was super awesome
  • etc etc won't bore you with this and will get to the point
That point being: way back in January, one of my resolutions was to be more active regarding social matters. You know, charities, and whatnot. It turns out, this year I've focused on one cause in particular: animals. Animals in distress, animals in danger, or their environment. Whenever I log onto Change.org, I find myself adding my signature on causes involving animals. I would skip the political ones and just go straight to them, be it about closing the Surabaya Zoo (did you see those pics of starving tigers - they're like skin and bones!), the one with the sick, sick picture of a dead elephant without its tusks, or the dolphins being maltreated in traveling circus (really, what did I expect anyway)... just, all of them.

The thing is, maybe I should care more about my fellow humans but truth is, IF IT COMES DOWN TO IT, us human beings can take care of ourselves. Yes, I'm even talking about hunger, poverty, sickness - we can help each other, and truth is, we will. But not everybody will care about these animals, not everyone will do what it takes to take care of the environment. I know it gets said often, but I'm gonna say it anyway: the future of this whole goddamn planet depends on us. We have the power, sadly most of the time it gets misused.

Animals and their environment are helpless. Yes, they will attack humans sometimes, but only because they're threatened. I knew I cared about animals in general, but I honestly had no idea how much until I saw those pics of the starving tigers at Surabaya Zoo. (So fucking sick, the whole lot of those people at the zoo. Not only those tigers are caged, but they are also underfed - sometimes they are even being fed PLASTIC BOTTLES. Fucking hell.)

Our oceans, our forests, our arctics... I can go on and on and fucking on about how we are destroying our own planet bit by bit. Signing petitions soon becomes... trivial, compared to the real action that can be done. I'll start doing what I can each day, and hopefully one day I get to help with my own hands and see with my own eyes. AMEN.
