sagittarius, you little archer.

I've noticed one thing happening all around me: as we're getting older, somehow, we start to believe that we can get a sense of somebody's character/personality once we find out their zodiac. You know, like, "Oh, he's a Pisces. Must be sensitive." It's interesting. I must confess I haven't really given much thought about how 'true' this all is, how your personality really fits your zodiac, how it has become some kind of meter system - how you end up using astrology as a way to measure up someone you know.

There are a lot of cliches surrounding zodiacs. Pisces and Cancer: sensitive. Aries and Capricorn: hard-headed. Sometimes these traits aren't cliches, they actually apply to the person in question. For some people, embracing the qualities of their zodiac sign comes easily. It's not the case with me. Growing up, I remember wanting so much to like Sailor Jupiter (lol shut up, bare with me), only because she is a Sagittarian. In the end, however, I find myself being drawn to Sailor Mars (who's an Aries, if I'm not mistaken. Interesting.) The fact I like Sailor Mars better has nothing to do with my point, though. I wanted to highlight how that was my earliest memory of wanting so bad to find someone I could identify with.

I was born in early December, making me a Sagittarian. When people talk to me, they say I'm so far from being a Sagittarian, and more like a Scorpio. Nothing against Scorpio (Scorpions? Scorpios?) but when that happens, I want so badly to prove to them that I'm indeed a Sagittarian even though it's not obvious straightaway. Let us count the ways, shall we?

SAGITTARIUS CHARACTERISTICS
The Sagittarius is really a centaur -- the lower half is horse, the upper half is a man. The man is holding a bow with an arrow aimed upwards toward the sky. This symbolizes the Sagittarius' drive to overcome basic animal instincts by aiming his thoughts into the divine realms of the heavens. In other words, Sagittarius is hunting for ideas and experiences that draw you into greater awareness. Sagittarius are honest to a fault, for you can say what's on your mind before you realize that someone's feelings might be hurt. (Yes to the first sentence, maybe on the second. I'm honest, sure, but not brutally.)


Others enjoy being with you when you are in your outgoing and joyful mood, but you can become more sullen if you feel that your wings have been clipped. Even in a restrictive situation, however, you'll not lose hope--and it is this inspirational perspective that leads you to your greatest success. (YESH.)

Your biggest strength: your undying optimistic attitude.
Your potential weakness: glossing over problems or avoiding difficult situations.

Sagittarians are rather physical people and thus the outdoors is a great attraction with them. Hiking into the mountains or camping under the stars are some of the most romantic things you can do with a Sagittarius partner. (Sadly, I haven't had the chance to experience this yet, but I would LOVE this to happen to me.)

Even though their innate physical nature ensures that Sagittarians are sensitive to their partner’s sexual needs and are quite sensual themselves, sex does not constitute a driving force in their romantic relationships. Rather, Sagittarians look for intellectual compatibility, a shared love of adventure and the ability to maintain personal space in a relationship. (YES.)


They must have the space to pursue their own interests and interact with their own social circle which may or may not include that of their partner’s. Despite being in a relationship, they need the freedom to come and go. This is not to say they are incapable of fidelity but that they will not stand being ‘owned’ by their partners. One of the biggest mistakes you can make with a Sagittarius girlfriend is to hedge her in and expect her to change her lifestyle to suit yours. (I do agree to an extent. Most Sagittarians are described as being afraid of commitment. I'm not. I just don't know how to.)

Other things: Sagittarians can be very generous to a fault, but only if they like you. This is true in my case. I'm also very stubborn, not to a fiery extent as Aries and Leo, but definitely so in a way. You can tell me what to do over and over again, in career or relationships, but once I'm set on something there's no turning back. 

Hmm, now that I've reread some of those things, I think it's safe to say that I am Sagittarian, even if I'm not overly loud about it. Yeah, so I'm not athletic, or have an incredible fear of commitment, or even brutally honest - but I treasure knowledge and my independence, as well as being sarcastic and optimistic.

.... I don't know why this entry was so important for me to write (a long-ass one, at that), I just find the whole subject rather fascinating.
