your geek is showing up!

Good evening, fair ladies and handsome gentlemen! (I like addressing whoever reads my blog as ladies and gentlemen. The accompanying adjectives will vary depending on the mood.)

I know how you absolutely love reading about me whining and so on and so forth, but this time I have good news.

I

AM

ENGAGED

yeah right. Although wouldn't that be shocking? Coming from a woman (yes, I'm a woman, will not refer to myself as girl) who has not been seen dating that much. For those who've had the pleasure to know me, witnessing me dating someone, let alone having a long-term boyfriend, is like seeing a unicorn. I don't think my closest friends even know what I'm like when I'm in a relationship, let alone being engaged....

You are now looking (er, or reading) at a freelance translator at SDI Media. WOOT. Whoever said that mo' money, mo' problems? LIES. Mo' money, mo' pleasure. At least at this stage in my life. I've always criticized poorly written / translated subtitles when watching a program on TV, but damn, one training session earlier today was all it took to change my mind and hail all subtitle editors. Their job is serious business, you guys. Without them, you can say bye bye to your favorite shows. I had so much fun during that training though! Yes, I struggled with the software used for the subtitling work, but I'll master it in no time. Plus, it's a bit like a puzzle you have to decipher without having to use complicated formulas: you listen to what they say, you make sense of it in your head, then make sense of it in the language you're translating it to.

The satisfaction I feel after having translated something correctly is magical. Like seeing a unicorn, but not quite (I have this obsession with unicorns, leave me alone). After that, like I said, the subtitling software. To make sure that each of the word coincides well within the time frame needed is just - the kind of mathematics/technical stuff that I actually like to do. *sighs in content*

Y'know, even if I don't get a new job after a while (although ugh please no, I need a new exciting job stat), freelance thing should ignite the fire within me (not that kind of fire....), the passion I have for written word.

In other news, I am seeing THE KOOKS this coming April! This is presh, you guys, I'm so excited.
