a girl and her thoughts - pt. I
There's always something so tragic, about a hopeless romantic...
Mara listened intently to the lyrics as Peter Salett croons out of her iPod speaker. The easy melody could've made anyone dismiss it as "just another soppy love song about a lovesick puppy", but to her it seems to be more than that. Just listen as he seems to emphasize (softly, mind you) the "and do you want to fight something worth saving?" and the "you're still a mystery, but there's something so easy in how you're sweet to me" parts.
She couldn't help but to roll her eyes at her own childishness. Such a girl, reading into things, twisting the meaning around in order to fit her own convenience. But seriously, listen! Just listen to him singing out those words, words of longing, words of immediate realization that he wouldn't, shouldn't, couldn't spend another minute without his girl. That kind of raw confession just can't be expected from the male species nowadays. Not that she'd want an extravagant show of PDA. Mara made a face when she tried to picture being proposed to in outrageous places, like the top of Eiffel Tower, or on a hot air balloon ride, or even in a restaurant with the ring being hidden in her glass of champagne. Ew. No. A proposal should be private.
However, as her friend Shelby would so lovingly point out, Mara is such a "girly girl" when it comes to men and relationships, and just romance in general. She blames her high expectations on everything pop culture has to offer: Mr. Darcy, Love Actually, La Vie En Rose - name it. Snarky, grouchy men with a heart of gold; awkward, sensitive nerds; ladies' man who's actually looking for The One...
"Ha!" she exclaimed suddenly, and sat up straighter. "Snap out of it, moron." Mara does have a tendency of muttering to herself when she's feeling stupid. Stupid, not because she believes there are no such men the way Peter fucking Salett's obviously trying to sell himself to be, but exactly because she knows that she will change her mind once she does find.... whoever This One is. She'll change her mind, contradict her past feminist beliefs, start acting like she's in a cheesy musical full of rainbows in the sky.
