daydream believer and a homecoming queen.
I remember I used to adore this woman during my crazy-obsessed Dawson's Creek days. Joey was my favorite - not so much in later seasons, but a favorite still - and I thought she (Katie) was the most beautiful person ever. I thought she had the most understated beauty, and I think, to this day, this still rings true - shame she had to go through all that bull with Tom (but funny thing is, I can't seem to hate this guy either). Anyway, seeing her in this picture, in all late 90s glory with tousled hair and overalls and simple white top made me nostalgic for the 90s. And.... slightly off-topic again, also a little scared after staring at her for too long. Damn.
90s. We thought we were so cool back then with our cropped tops, high-heeled sneakers, and baggy pants. Oh, wait - we totally were. How could we not be? This is a time when all-around American teens like Devon Sawa, Christina Ricci, Brad Renfro, and Gaby Hoffman were reigning supreme among us mere mortals. This is a time where we worshiped Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys and Mariah Carey and TLC and frickin' Nirvana. Nintendo and Game Boy and walkman were part of my dictionary. Tattered jeans and Gosh (the shoes) actually being a big deal and really really mini skirts like that one Alicia Silverstone wore in Clueless - which, by the way, IS the 90s in all its fashionable glory... As you can see, I can go on and on and on.
Look, I know the 90s also had its fair share of ugly moments. But damn, was it a nice era for me to grow up in. The absolute best.
